FATE’S GOT A DRIVER

Fate’s Got a Driver is one of the most perfect albums you’re going to hear. The album opens with “Her Side of Sundown,” a perfect prelude to the record. Upbeat melody, tremendous drum roll change in tempo and an excellent bass. “Drums and Shotguns” is flawless…a brilliant piece of emotional, powerful rock music. It starts with two layered guitars that guide you into the strength of the music. The tapping of the cymbal, the reverberation of the bass and it all comes together in one almighty emotional high. The final song, “The Simple Life,” starts slow with only vocals and guitar. Then, to end the song and the album, the whole band provide one last enduring reminder of their emotion and power.

David Moore’s lyrical prose is a magnificent structure of allegories and metaphors that transcend their Midwestern roots. Words, however, form only one part of the vocals; the melodies form the backbone that fuels the deep powerful voice. While most bands in a similar vein attempt screaming and inane melody to purvey the power, Moore uses traditional vocals backed up by his own poetry to depict the emotion, using the romanticism of the Midwest as the foundation for his imagery. When a lyricist uses a line from a Dylan Thomas poem, you know that the vocals are going to be deep and affecting.

Lyrically, you won’t find better songs, and in terms of the music, Chamberlain are difficult to beat. The layered guitars provide amazing energy, emotion and strength. The composition is simply breathtaking in its simplicity and its ability to create complex melodies.

It is hard to find a band in which all components (the instruments and the vocals) have an equal measure of importance. This enables Chamberlain to play songs that have a 360-degree rotation of power and excellence, where each instrument has its own voice, and together they make astoundingly moving music.
